Seems like everyone here hates ICICI... I have been using ICICI for 8 yrs now...Had no issues transferring money..... They might have robbed me few paisa from exchange rate but i did not pay that close attention as i found that exchange rate at remit2india from times and Citi was always bad compared to ICICI. I do know about their bad practices in India where they force people to have min balance of 10-15 K and so forth. I think its time that RBI makes gets rid of min balance requirement or put upper ceiling on it. Having such a large sum (Equivalent to 2K USD when considered Purchase power parity) is ridiculous and kind of stealing of people's hard earned money. But again, ICICI is not the only one doing it so cant single them out.

After reading so many bad reviews about ICICI, i would like to check out SBI service, but not sure if they allow direct deposit in banks other than SBI? my parents are with IDBI so it is very convenient to have ICICI transfer money directly....Please advise

Hello:

The company I am working with doing business for 40 years (less than 40 employee) and as per my lawyer, financially very good. I hired the lawyer and employer directly gave him financial docs. I am only one person with H-1 in this company's history and working for 4 years. Got labor approval on PERM EB2 (MS+1) and did concurrent filing with I-140 premium processing.

I received RFE regarding company's ability to pay. We sent tax files for FY 2005 (contains oct '05 to Oct '06) for being PD of Nov '06 and W2 for 2006 which showed 6k more than offered wage. Company started paying me offered wage one week after the PD and offered wage is 3k more than prevailing wage. RFE specified to show ability to pay by showing 2006 tax return or audited financial statement by 12 weeks. Any of this will not work as tax file will be prepred on Nov '07 for FY 2006 and audited finan. stat. costs a lot of money. My company has no clue and just planning to write a letter that they will not able to provide before Nov 07 and already submitted tax file upto Oct 06 which could be enough to find the financial status. They talk to their CPA and he advised to do so.

I am really not very fimilar with all these issues. What should I do as company is not able to provide above 2 things that USCIS asked for? Can I send my paychecks even started getting paid offered wage after one week?

You should not have gotton H1B visa in the first place, as H1b visas are for professionals and there are many professionals stuggle to get an h1b visas even after engineering degrees. In your case, IGNOU is a shame. Its worse than University of Pheonix. If you get a greencard in EB2, it will be a biggest mockery of the USCIS and department of labor.

I suggest you learn a thing or two about laws governing H1 and EB GC. From your various post it appears that you have absolutely no clue regarding these process nor do you know what a legitimate university is . Did you pass from a unaccredited university ??

BTW, one does not even need a degree for H1 .... absence of every 1 year of post secondary education can be substituted by 3 years of experience --- so US Government understands the importance of experience. But I agree , some wannabe US LPR/Citizen might find it difficult to understand the importance of experience.

Care to explain why "professionals with engineering degree" "struggle" to get H1 ? It is a pretty straight forward process if you have a "valid" job. If you work for a fraud consulting company , it is a different story however.

Couldn't disagree more with kaisersose or guns. GC system as it exists is rubbish and ugly in many ways- but as bad as it is that's what's legal and in place now so we have to go thru that and if possible, make it better along the way appealing to the saner elements of the society. Brain drain is tricky - you guys are honest enough to admit to not having it so theres clearly no drain there but other programmers will disagree. Hey GG - I did not take offense to your sentiments on B Com. What pissed people off, was your tone and disgust at the poor fellow and his qualifications, especially when you know little about his ability to carry out his job, or his background. In school, or on line -- he earned those degrees. Maybe he didn't have the financial resources to attend the best schools (I don�t know what is IGNOU). His employer has retained him, so perhaps he is good at what he does. He left his home, his family and traveled to some foreign shore to earn a living, not rob a bank. Show some respect. I assume you've likely never studied in India though. An bachelor's degree in engineering is not very expensive, if you have good grades.
10 years back it would cost about $100-200 a year, if you qualified through a state ranking system.

One of Spain's richest women, the Duchess of Alba, is reportedly giving away her personal fortune in order to marry a civil servant.

The 85-year-old's personal wealth is estimated to be between 600m and 3.5bn euros (£524m and £3bn).

The duchess's six children have until now opposed her plans to wed Alfonso Diez, who is 24 years her junior.

Local media reports say she plans to get round her children by giving them their inheritance early.

''Alfonso doesn't want anything. All he wants is me,'' the duchess was quoted as saying earlier this year.

Kerajaan negeri telah membelanjakan lebih RM2 juta bagi membiayai program subsidi air bersih kepada keluarga miskin di Perak sejak ia diperkenalkan empat tahun lalu.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir berkata seramai 9,069 keluarga miskin menikmati manfaat daripada usaha kerajaan menyediakan bantuan air kepada golongan memerlukan.

Katanya penerima subsidi air merupakan 6,845 keluarga yang berdaftar dengan Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, Majlis Agama Islam Negeri, (1,509), dan Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli (715).

Selain subsidi air program, katanya, kerajaan negeri juga sedang dalam fasa kedua pemasangan paip air ke kawasan kampung dan pendalaman yang telah dikenalpasti di seluruh Perak.

“Dalam fasa ini, pemasangan paip ini melibatkan 51 kawasan penempatan dengan peruntukan RM3.68 juta yang dibiayai sepenuhnya Lembaga Air Perak,” katanya.

Menteri Besar berkata demikian kepada pemberita selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat ahli lembaga pengarah LAP di Ipoh, hari ini.

Mengenai prestasi LAP, Dr Zambry berkata LAP mencatat peningkatan dalam keuntungan bersih sebelum cukai iaitu sebanyak RM1.04 juta dengan hasil RM54.16 juta sehingga 30 Jun.

Katanya pada tempoh sama tahun lalu, keuntungan sebelum cukai LAP adalah RM53.12 juta, katanya.

Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak berkata kerajaan juga bersetuju memberi bayaran khas sebanyak RM500 kepada pesara kerajaan.

"Bonus dan bayaran khas ini akan dibuat pada pertengahan bulan ini," kata Najib yang juga Menteri Kewangan dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.

Katanya bonus itu adalah bagi menghargai sumbangan serta dedikasi penjawat awam dalam memudah dan menjayakan pelaksanaan program pembangunan negara.

Perdana Menteri berkata kerajaan berharap pemberian bonus dan bayaran khas ini dapat meringankan beban penjawat awam dan para pesara kerajaan dan membantu mereka membuat persediaan menyambut Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Bekas pengikut pertubuhan itu yang mahu dikenali sebagai Adazhan, 30-an, mengakui pernah dilatih menjadi paderi sepanjang 10 tahun menjadi pengikut program berkenaan, termasuk menukar agama isteri dan anak-anaknya sebelum kembali ke pangkal jalan.

Ketika ‘diselamatkan’ daripada kesempitan hidup, Adazhan mengakui menerima tawaran bantuan pertubuhan itu adalah pilihan hidup untuk menyelamatkan keluarga daripada kepompong kemiskinan.

Malah, kesungguhannya mengikut program membolehkannya menghadiri kursus menjadi paderi dan dijanjikan Rumah Doa sendiri dengan pembiayaan penuh pertubuhan untuk menjalankan aktiviti keagamaan.

“Dulu saya terima bantuan kewangan RM500 sebulan. Bagi yang ada isteri, mereka diberi tambahan RM300 dan RM100 bagi seorang anak. Bagi saya yang hidup merempat ketika itu, cuma itu pilihan terbaik. Sekarang, jumlah bantuan bertambah dan difahamkan, ada yang dapat lebih RM1,000 sebulan.

“Saya percaya ramai sudah terpedaya selepas termakan pujukan dan terhutang budi dengan bantuan diterima. Cuma, mereka takut menukar status agama dalam MyKad,” katanya kepada Berita Harian, semalam.

Beliau mencadangkan supaya mereka yang terpedaya, tidak dikenakan hukuman atau ditangkap kerana bimbang menyebabkan keadaan lebih teruk, sebaliknya didekati secara lembut dengan membetulkan semula akidah dan diberi bantuan sepatutnya bagi mengelakkan kejadian sama berulang.

Kelmarin, Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) dan Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) menyerbu majlis makan malam anjuran sebuah komuniti gereja di Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, susulan laporan terdapat unsur penyebaran agama lain kepada orang Islam yang bertentangan Artikel 11 (4) Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

Difahamkan, 50 orang Islam menghadiri majlis itu ketika serbuan dibuat, namun hanya 12 daripada mereka termasuk lapan wanita berjaya ditahan dan diarahkan memberi keterangan di Ibu Pejabat JAIS di Shah Alam, 9 Ogos ini kerana melakukan kesalahan mengikut Seksyen 10, Enakmen Jenayah Syariah 1995.

Sementara itu, salah seorang peserta wanita yang ditahan dalam serbuan berkenaan mendedahkan peserta Islam ditegah mempercayai Nabi Muhammad SAW, tetapi diminta mengikut suruhan Nabi Isa melalui ceramah dan nyanyian sepanjang majlis berlangsung.

Hanya mahu dikenali sebagai Jasmine, wanita itu berkata, pertubuhan terbabit mensasarkan individu yang menghadapi masalah kewangan seperti kumpulan mualaf dan golongan yang kecewa dengan kerajaan sebagai ahli sebelum ejen berperwatakan alim seperti haji dan imam dihantar mendekati mangsa.

“Mereka menabur janji mampu menyelesaikan masalah dihadapi sebelum sasaran dibawa menghadiri majlis suai kenal dan sesi ceramah secara sulit. Biasanya, minat menyertai pertubuhan ini timbul selepas mendengar syarahan ketua agama dari Sabah, Sarawak dan Indonesia,” katanya yang menyertai pertubuhan itu bersama suami dua tahun lalu.

Jasmine yang dijanjikan bantuan kewangan untuk menyelesaikan hutang dan keperluan harian, berkata dalam setiap program dianjurkan, peserta diberikan kitab Injil berbahasa Melayu seterusnya diajar menyanyi lagu dakwah Kristian, disusuli diberikan ‘minuman istimewa’ diikuti upacara pembaptisan.

PAS sepatutnya bertanggungjawab mencegah bukan membantu gereja mengkristiankan umat Islam.

Jawatankuasa Kerja PAS Pusat akan bermesyuarat jam 10.00 pagi esok bagi menyatakan pendirian parti berhubung isu ‘serbuan’ ke atas sebuah gereja oleh pegawai-pegawai Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (Jais) di Bandar Utama, di sini malam Rabu lalu.

Ketika dihubungi AJK PAS Pusat dan juga Ahli Parlimen Kuala Selangor, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad mengesahkan mesyuarat itu akan di adakan esok di Ibu Pejabat parti, Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.

Exco agama kerajaan negeri Selangor, Datuk Dr Hasan Ali, yang akan membuat laporan bagi mempertahankan umat Islam serta menyokong tindakan JAIS.

Manakala Khalid Samad selaku Timbalan Pesuruhjaya PAS Selangor dijangkan mempertahankan perbuatan paderi gereja Methodist Damansara Utama.

Rabu lalu, sekumpulan pegawai Jais dan beberapa anggota polis telah pergi ke Gereja Methodist Damansara Utama untuk mengambil keterangan dari 12 orang Islam yang menghadiri majlis makan malam muhibbah di gereja itu.

Beberapa akhbar perdana melaporkan bahawa terdapat usaha pihak gereja tersebut untuk membaptiskan (mengkristiankan) masyarakat Islam di sebalik majlis makan malam itu.

“Kami tidak dapat memberi komen atau membuat keputusan sehingga kami mendapat laporan dari Jais dan menemui Hasan Ahli untuk mendapatkan keterangan lanjut daripadanya.

“Kami mahu melihat apa bukti yang beliau (Hasan Ali) hendak kemukakan,” kata Timbalan Pesuruhjaya PAS Selangor dan juga Ahli Parlimen Shah Alam Khalid Samad semalam.

Kenyataan Hasan dilihat bercanggah dengan kenyataan Menteri Besar Selangor, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim yang tidak bersetuju dengan tindakan Jais.

Beliau meminta Jais menyediakan satu laporan berhubung perkara ini dan beliau akan menghadap Sultan Selangor sebelum mengambil sebarang tindakan atau menetapkan pendirian.

Pengarah Jais, Marzuki Husin semalam menafikan melakukan ‘serbuan’ terhadap gereja tersebut tetapi menerangkan bahawa mereka membuat beberapa pemeriksaan dan terdapat percubaan untuk menghilangkan bukti-bukti.

“Ia dilakukan untuk memelihara orang-orang Islam dan saya berharap isu ini tidak menjadi kontroversi. Kami tidak melakukan sebarang tangkapan,” kata beliau, dipetik dari sebuah akhbar perdana.

Menurut laporan beberapa portal berita, Hasan dan pegawai Jais mendakwa usaha-usaha untuk memurtadkan umat Islam telah dan sedang berlaku dan aktiviti-aktiviti ini dilakukan di beberapa buah gereja di negeri Selangor ini.

Kesucian Islam dan umatnya terpelihara dalam Perlembagaan Malaysia dan orang-orang bukan Islam dilarang untuk berdakwah kepada orang-orang Islam.

Apakah esok satu lagi korban yang PAS Selangor lakukan demi mempertahankan masa depan politik mereka.

Saya sempat bertanya bersama ustaz Kazim sambil menjamah makanan ringan mengenai Pas yang mempergunakan agama Islam demi kepentingan politik semata-mata. Betapa jahatnya parti yang bermuka-muka kononnya mereka Islam tetapi semuanya kosong belaka. Begitulah yang berlaku kepada Pas yang mendabik dada kononnya merekalah yang lebih Islam daripada Islam tetapi menjadi hamba sebuah parti kafir laknatullah seperti DAP.

Ustaz Kazim mengupas bagaimana Pas sanggup mempergunakan orang Melayu yang beragama Islam agar berpecahbelah dan menjadi berpuak-puak supaya parti DAP menjadi sebagai sebuah parti majoriti. Semangat Ustaz Kazim terhadap Islam dan dan bangsa Melayu wajar dipuji kerana ia melebihi ulamak Pas yang bercakap hanya retorik politik semata-mata.

Kata Ustaz Kazim, manusia yang paling fasik adalah manusia yang mengelarkana diri orang lain dengan gelaran yang tidak baik termasuk mengelarkan diri orang lain dengan kafir.

Apabila suasana begini wujud maka usaha untuk mendidik masyarakat menjadi orang Islam beriman akan gagal kerana intisari dalam ceramah Pas lebih mirip kepada kutukan dan ejekan. Sikap mengutuk dan mempersendakan individu-individu dan golongan tertentu menjadi lumrah kepada kebanyakan penceramah agama di dunia Islam masa kini.

"Seseorang meminta Rasulullah SAW supaya baginda mendoakan orang musyrik mendapat bala bencana. Baginda menjawab, "Aku bukan diutus menjadi tukang laknat tetapi untuk menjadi rahmat." - Namun PAS lakukan sebaliknya

Sabda baginda ini sepatutnya dijadikan panduan kepada pendakwah Islam. Pendakwah sepatutnya memahami realiti kehidupan masyarakat di sekeliling mereka dan menggunakan akal yang rasional dalam merancang program dan pendekatan dakwah kepada masyarakat.

Jika masyarakat jahil tentang agama Islam pendakwah sepatutnya menumpukan perhatian kepada aspek yang boleh memperkukuhkan akidah Islam dan mengajar serta menggalakkan mereka mengamalkan perkara-perkara berkaitan dengan fardu ain terlebih dahulu daripada membicarakan perkara-perkara yang menyukarkan akal fikiran masyarakat dan menyebabkan mereka merasai betapa sukarnya menjadi umat Islam.-sebab itulah PAS gagal dalam kerja dakwahnya dan hanya berjaya mengejar kehendak duniawi saja.

Sikap gemar mengejek dan merendahkan keperibadian orang lain bukan merupakan ciri-ciri pendakwah yang berwibawa. -Ini hobi tetap Ostad PAS. Rasulullah SAW menyeru pendakwah Islam supaya memahami kecapaian akal fikiran manusia ketika berdakwah. Sikap radikal dan 'ujub (merasai diri terlalu warak dan beriman) bukan merupakan sifat pendakwah Islam. Kuliah subuh sepatutnya digunakan untuk menerapkan ilmu wahyu dalam hati nurani masyarakat bukan menghemburkan cacian dan cercaan kepada orang yang tidak bersefahaman dengan ideologi politik.

Pendakwah Islam sepatutnya menjadi orang yang paling sabar menghadapi kerenah masyarakat kerana peranan mereka ialah mendorong masyarakat ke arah syurga. - Adakah Ostd PAS seorang penyabar?Jika hati nurani pendakwah dilatih menjadi orang yang sabar dan mempunyai azam yang kuat untuk mendorong masyarakat ke arah kebahagiaan hakiki iaitu memasuki syurga, mereka tidak akan menghina dan mempersendakan orang yang jahil agama.

Sikap gemar mengejek dan merendahkan keperibadian orang lain bukan merupakan ciri-ciri pendakwah yang berwibawa. Realiti yang wujud masa kini ialah terdapat pendakwah Islam kurang perihatin terhadap akhlak Islam dalam penyampaian ilmu wahyu. Sentimen politik lebih mempengaruhi pemikiran mereka ketika menyampaikan ilmu wahyu. Sepatutnya penceramah memahami bahawa orang yang hadir dalam majlis ilmu wahyu ialah orang yang mengharapkan panduan dan didikan agama bukan kutukan dan cercaan. Sedangkan mencerca orang musyrik pun dilarang oleh Rasulullah SAW.

Perkara ini dijelaskan oleh Abu Hurairah r.a. dengan katanya, "Seseorang meminta Rasulullah SAW supaya baginda mendoakan orang musyrik mendapat bala bencana. Baginda menjawab, "Aku bukan diutus menjadi tukang laknat tetapi untuk menjadi rahmat." Sabda baginda ini sepatutnya dijadikan panduan kepada pendakwah Islam.

Fikirkanlah sendiri...Anda lebih bijak mengetahui, yang mana kaca dan yang mana permata. PAS hanya mempergunakan Islam demi politik duniawi tanpa sedar yang mereka sebenarnya tangan-tangan yang memburukkan Islam itu sendiri.

Segala baik dan buruk politik mereka diterjemah dalam Islam kononnya mereka benar maksum tanpa melakukan sebarang salah dan dosa. Demi politik dunia, mereka sanggup menggunakan Islam sebagai alat untuk memegang kuasa dunia dan harta benda rakyat.

Tetapi Allah tahu apa yang manusia jenis Khalid Samad lakukan, akhirnya terbongkar juga helah PAS Selangor mempertahankan Gereja Seksyen 13.

Beberapa individu beragama Islam yang menyertai aktiviti keagamaan di sebuah gereja di Seksyen 13, Petaling Jaya, ketika pegawai Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (Jais) membuat pemeriksaan malam kelmarin, hanya sebahagian kecil yang berjaya dikesan, manakala sebahagian besar golongan itu dipercayai menyertainya secara sembunyi atau ‘bawah tanah’.

Kebanyakan mereka terdiri daripada kaum Melayu dan golongan mualaf yang menyertai kumpulan berkenaan disebabkan kesempitan wang untuk menyara diri dan keluarga serta gagal mendapat bantuan daripada pihak berwajib.

Mereka menyertai kegiatan keagamaan berkenaan secara senyap-senyap di premis persendirian termasuk rumah kedai dan dewan komuniti, bukan saja di Lembah Klang, malah pergerakan ‘bawah tanah’ ini sudah berkembang di seluruh negara termasuk di Kelantan dan Terengganu.

Ia didedahkan sendiri seorang wanita Melayu yang mengikuti kumpulan itu sejak lebih setahun lalu, selepas dibelenggu masalah kewangan sehingga tidak mampu membiayai keperluan seharian.

Katanya, pendakwah kumpulan berkenaan membantu mereka dengan memberi seberapa banyak wang diperlukan dan selepas itu, mereka memujuk individu yang sudah diberi bantuan menyertai program keagamaan mereka.

PAS kini sudah boleh disamakan dengan sebuah pertubuhan Kristian yang sama-sama membantu agama kristian bagi memurtadkan umat Islam, sebab itulah sehingga kini tarbiah yang PAS lakukan hampir setiap hari hanya untuk memurtadkan umat Islam sahaja.

PAS sudah tidak layak menggelarkan parti mereka sebagai parti Islam, pemimpin mereka wajib dihukum seberat-beratnya oleh umat Islam di Malaysia.

Pembunuhan Timbalan Pengarah Veterinar Perak: Jiran sebelah rumah antara suspek yang ditahan

Penjenayah kejam yang mencerobohi rumah Timbalan Pengarah (Kesihatan) Jabatan Veterinar Perak, Dr Rohani Kasim, 38, sebelum mencekik mangsa hingga mati dipercayai tinggal di tingkat sama dengan rumah mangsa di Pangsapuri Permai Lake View Tambun.

Menurut penghuni pangsapuri berkenaan yang juga jiran mangsa, terdapat empat lelaki tinggal di rumah bertentangan dengan kediaman mangsa di tingkat satu.

Dia yang enggan identitinya disiarkan berkata, mangsa tinggal di unit F-1-09, manakala empat lelaki terbabit iaitu tiga berbangsa Melayu dan seorang seperti berdarah kacukan India-Cina mendiami unit F-1-02.

Keempat-empat lelaki terbabit sering dilihat melepak di tangga berhampiran kediaman mereka dan beberapa rakan juga pernah menduduki unit yang didiami mangsa.

“Mereka kemudian berpindah sebelum arwah menyewanya. Saya percaya mereka terbabit dalam pembunuhan mangsa kerana saya dan beberapa jiran lain melihat dua daripada empat lelaki itu ditahan polis tidak lama selepas mayat Rohani,” katanya.

Dia bertambah yakin keempat-empat suspek adalah penghuni unit F-1-02 kerana pengawal keselamatan turut melihat dua daripada mereka melarikan diri pada hari kejadian.

Allahyarham Rohani yang baru dinaikkan pangkat memegang jawatan kini berkuat kuasa 1 Julai lalu ditemui mati kira-kira jam 3.30 pagi kelmarin, dipercayai dicekik sehingga mati sebelum pembunuh membalut mayatnya sebelum mengusungnya keluar dari rumah mangsa.

Suspek disyaki mahu membuang mayat mangsa di lokasi lain bagi mengelakkan jenayah itu dikesan.

Bagaimanapun, cubaan itu terbantut selepas tindakan mereka mengusung cadar berisi mayat mangsa disedari pengawal keselamatan di pangsapuri berkenaan yang melakukan rondaan rutin.

Menurut sumber, pengawal yang memeriksa tilam di lantai tangga Pangsapuri Permai Lake View Tambun, dekat sini, menemui mangsa sudah tidak bernyawa dalam keadaan tangan dan kaki terikat sebelum menghubungi polis.

Arwah pernah menyuarakan kebimbangan keselamatannya tinggal di pangsapuri berkenaan kepada ahli keluarga kerana pernah kerugian hampir RM15,000 apabila barang kemasnya dilarikan penjenayah yang memecah masuk kediaman itu pada minggu kedua mendiaminya.

Mangsa yang juga anak ketujuh daripada 10 beradik, sebelum ini bertugas sebagai pendaftar di Kolej Pertanian Sintok, Kedah sebelum berpindah ke Ipoh.

Sementara itu, Timbalan Ketua Polis Perak, Datuk Zakaria Yusof berkata, posmen dan tentera antara empat suspek yang ditahan di tiga lokasi berasingan sekitar negeri ini. Katanya, dengan penahanan itu, pihaknya yakin dapat menyelesaikan kes itu dalam tempoh kurang 24 jam.

“Siasatan mendapati motif dipercayai samun berikutan penemuan beberapa barang kes seperti telefon bimbit dan barang kemas bersama suspek.

“Tangkapan pertama terhadap dua lelaki masing-masing berumur 26 tahun di sekitar kawasan kejadian pada jam 4 pagi. Dua lagi suspek masing-masing berusia 20 dan 22 tahun ditahan di Tanjung Malim pada jam 4.30 petang dan di Slim River jam 10.25 malam tadi (kelmarin),” katanya.

Menurutnya, seorang daripada suspek berada dalam senarai individu dikehendaki polis bagi kes rogol di Slim River manakala seorang lagi askar yang lari daripada tugas.

“Dua daripada suspek direman selama empat hari manakala dua lagi suspek direman tujuh hari bermula semalam dengan kes disiasat di bawah Seksyen 302 Kanun Keseksaan,” katanya.

My drinking buddy, Chow Kah and I had finished our first mug of Budweizer, and flipping through magazines, waiting for Hussein.

Yesterday, being my day off from blogging, I picked up Rick in my not so trusty Beamer and we drove down to Pattaya to do a bit of running around to buy a few computer bits and pieces. After which, we headed in an easterly, Darkside direction, to Frogger, where all our darlin’ little regulars were lining up for some Mobi-cossetting. After a couple of drinks, Rick claimed he wasn’t in the mood and wanted to have an early night; so I had a brief of slap and tickle with Pat-pat and Net-book, before calling it a night, dropping Rick off at his place and driving back home to my ever-waiting, darling little Noo.

You can imagine my surprise, when, barely a couple of hours later, the weary Rick who had apparently on the point of exhaustion, sent me a cheeky sms from Black Death to advise me that he was having his filthy way with no less than three dirty damsels!!

ONE of the most interesting and inspiring aspects of the Star Trek universe is how nice everybody is.

They’re so politically correct, it’s almost painful to watch. By the 23rd century, we’re told, there would be no prejudice against colour, class, creed, or gender. Respect for human (or alien) rights would be an ingrained part of society. Thanks to replicator technology, greed for material possession will be a thing of the past. No more tyranny of need.

True, this vision was not consistent throughout the various series and movies – Captain Kirk’s adventures had a Midshipman Hornblower feel to them, things were a lot grittier on the Deep Space 9 station, and Janeway’s voice had an irritating nasal twang that challenged the tolerance levels of even the most accepting of liberals. Fans are still split over how true-to-its-source Star Trek: Enterprise was, but at least it had the sexy Vulcan T’Pol (Jolene Blalock), so who’s complaining.

The Star Trek future is one of hope, when humans have become highly “evolved”. I use the word in quotation marks because, in terms of everyday discourse, it is being used correctly (and Mind Our English editor Kee Thuan Chye won’t be forced to correct me, so there!).

“Evolution” here is used to mean change, and to imply “better”. Even science fiction writers do this – their “highly evolved” beings of the future or from any advanced galactic civilisation don’t kill except in absolute need, have finely attuned aesthetic tastes (they all listen to classical music, not P.J. Harvey), and are into poetry.

However, the scientific meaning of the word is more restricted. In biology, the definition is the “change in the gene pool (or inherited traits) of a population from generation to generation by such processes as natural selection and genetic drift”,

Evolution does not necessarily lead to “better” or “more sophisticated” beings. It’s just that these organisms (people included) change from generation to generation, and the traits that are best for survival in a certain environment tend to get passed on. The reason for this, as Charles Darwin explained, is because individuals with advantageous traits are more likely to survive and reproduce.

When it comes to social animals like humans, the “environment” here is more than just our natural surroundings. It’s our communities and cultures, our aspirations as a society, and much more: survival of the fittest, where fitness isn’t physical any more.

We’ve created a society where strength comes from wealth and power (usually political), not the human traits that we say, or like to believe, we value more. Caring, compassionate, ethical and principled people operate at a disadvantage in our society. There is a yawning chasm between our ideals and what our society actually nurtures. We’re a species at odds with ourselves.

How do we transform society to treasure and nurture these higher principles? How can we, when the rules of society are written by the wealthy and powerful who have no desire to see their advantages dissolve in the throes of transformation?

How about we write them out of the gene pool? That’s right, why don’t we make sure these “helpful traits” are not passed down to yet another generation.

And that’s where women come in. You have the power of reproduction and motherhood. You propagate the species. You can also play a big role in ensuring it’s a progressive propagation.

Yeah, I know how wealth and power are aphrodisiacs to some ladies, but perhaps if the people who crave these things were not rewarded with the love of a good woman, they might change their priorities.

Don’t let nice guys finish last. If you have a choice between that tycoon’s son who can whisk you off to a dirty weekend in Paris, or the one who’s asking you to feed his fish while he joins a Mercy Malaysia mission, go for the latter.

The doctor who boasts of his new BMW and exclusive golf club membership, or the one who will be posted to Africa for a couple of years as part of a United Nations effort? You know which relationship you should nurse.

The charming bad boy or the fumbling dork who is too nervous to ask you out? Do you even have to ask? (Don’t worry, I am not a nice person, so this is not a subtle pitch.)

And no matter how exciting and articulate they may be, always watch out for the type who is capable of betraying your trust. You know, the ones who take pictures of you while you’re asleep or in an compromising position, saying “Don’t worry, it’s just for my personal collection”.

Yeah, right. Remember, if hell hath no fury as a woman scorned, the gutter has nothing as slimy as a man who can’t get his way.

The world of tomorrow can be a better place. We just have to make sure the jerks are weaned out. Ladies, the ball’s in your ... erm, court.

He was referring to photos he received via email purportedly showing what a couple did when they did a walkabout at Bukit Timah Hill. Not only did they treat the nature reserve like a nudist colony by going in the buff, they also made passionate love there, in broad daylight.

Prometheus says he can't verify other details but points out that the photos look authentic. The couple is a Chinese couple who looks "local", although they could be Malaysian too, he says.

Who took the photos is another issue, Prometheus adds. It could be the work of a nature photography buff who had humans instead of birds and insects in the focus of his lens. Or he could well be a voyeur.

Hot Mandopop all-girl group S.H.E. wowed 18,000 fans at Stadium Merdeka on Saturday night with an electrifying performance.

Winning their fans over with their girlie camaraderie, the Taiwanese trio thrilled their excited audience with a string of their hits.

They also had their audience singing along to their own compositions Lau Po (Wife) and Shuo Ni Ai Wo (Say You Love Me).

The girls also did some solo performances. Ella Chen gave a rousing drum solo and later rendered Qiang Qiang, a song she composed for her beloved pup.

Selina Ren surprised fans with a dance solo comprising a medley during which she had several costume changes.

S.H.E’s special guests for the night were Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit. The band comprising Wu Chun, Calvin Chen, Aaron Yan and Jiro Wang were missing their fourth member but they still dazzled the crowd with three of their hit songs.

S.H.E's third member Hebe Tian joined Fahrenheit for their award-winning duet Zhi Dui Ni You Gan Jue (Only Have Feelings For You) from the boys’ first self-titled album.

S.H.E.’s second guest artiste for the night was Anthony Chang, winner of the Astro Talent Quest 2006. He delighted the audience with two songs, one in English and the other in Mandarin.

Thirty over songs were presented during the three-hour long concert.

S.H.E. staged their first concert in Kuala Lumpur in November 2004 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium during the third stop of their Fantasy Land World Tour. The last leg of the tour themed Live in Genting was held in Kuala Lumpur at Genting’s Arena of Stars in January 2006.

Kenyataan Jimmy Shanley berhubung pembatalan majlis cukur jambul anak perempuannya yang disiarkan oleh sebuah akhbar tempatan terbitan Ahad lalu (24 Julai) menimbulkan kemarahan bapa dan ibu mentuanya.

“Jujurnya, saya tidak maafkan dia berdasarkan kenyataan yang dikeluarkan. Nama saya tercemar sehinggakan saya jadi malu dengan kawan-kawan yang bertanyakan kesahihan sama ada majlis cukur jambul cucu saya jadi atau tidak.

“Bila ramai yang bertanya, saya jadi terkejut kerana majlis yang dirancang akan dilaksanakan dan dia sendiri tahu majlis ini akan dibuat pada 27 Julai.

“Bila itu terjadi, saya jadi sangat marah dengan tindakannya. Pada saya, jadi atau tidak majlis tersebut tidak perlu keluarkan kenyataan. Bukannya kita jemput satu stadium. Apa motif dia untuk keluarkan kenyataan sedemikian. Ini adalah majlis saya,” luah Datuk Suhaimi yang ditemui seusai majlis cukur jambul dua orang cucunya pada malam semalam.

Bagi ibu mentuanya yang dianggap sebagai orang yang paling rapat dengan Jimmy menjelaskan;

“Memang Jimmy merancang untuk mengadakannya pada 23 Julai lalu. Tetapi, suami saya beritahu yang dia tidak boleh kerana ada mesyuarat dengan stokis. Justeru, Jimmy sendiri yang berikan tarikh 27 Julai kerana dia kata hanya hari Rabu dan Khamis sahaja dia ‘free’.

“Agak terkejut bila dia cakap majlis ini tidak jadi. Itu yang saya dan suami marah sangat. Apabila saya hubungi dan bertanyakan hal berkenaan kepadanya, dia tidak jawab pun. Kalau dia cakap dia tidak tahu menahu soal majlis ini, dia tipu. Malah, sebelum majlis ini berlangsung pada sebelah petangnya saya ada ingatkannya.”

Mentri Besar Ahmad Said says he has met the producer of the movie and even read the script, but declined to divulge more details on the other stars who will be here.

'The production house will disclose the list of actors and other details during a press conference that would be held here before production starts,' he said here on Monday.

Mr Ahmad said the state government is excited that the Bollywood producer had selected Terengganu to shoot its movie as this could have a positive impact for the state since there is a host of Hindi movie buffs all over the globe.
